i'm having a new orleans/mardi gras themed sweet 16, and i need some ideas (see details)?
i already have the food figured out, but i need help finding decorations. it will be outside in my backyard, and also inside. so far, i'm good with beads and masks and small stuff, but i need help finding places that have cool scene setters and stuff like that–larger decs. i'd prefer stuff less tacky, but i appreciate all ideas. i'm also doing one room as a house of blues-type thing, so any ideas for that would also be appreciated. if you have any other suggestions, please tell me! thanks!
well the masks and beads are great and most common must have but here are some great Marti gras decorations. Most importantly you need a lot of bright colors for example purple green yellow. lots and lots of those cheap strands of beads to throw around and lots of cheap little noise making instruments to make racket with….adds to the festivity!

if your doing is outside, you should get a bunch of lights, and you could hang beads everywhere. tiki torches maybe? also getting some posters or soemthing that respond to a blacklight may be cool to make everything glow in the dark. highlighter also respond to blacklight so you could make your own signs or draw on other people. most of all have fun and don't stress. :]

okay, well, obviously, cheap plastic beads.
go to family dollar:
feather boas, nice to have sitting around on tables, etc.
who knows, you might find something big to decorate with. i would recommend maybe looking through the phone book or something to look for a party shop.

You should make beingets and serve cafe au lait like cafe du monde! Set up a little "bistro area" it would be so cool!
Maybe get a zydeco band or a cajun band to come play a couple of songs… or just buy CD's to play (BeauSoleil or something by Buckwheat Zydeco)
